Three Group races are set to run on Saturday September 4 at Randwick Racecourse as part of Chelmsford Stakes Day
The highlight race of this card will be the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes, a 1600 metre Weight-For-Age race. Due to its similar length to the Group 1 George Main Stakes – also 1600 metres – the Chelmsford Stakes is considered to be a good indicator for performance in that race.
Another Group 2 event on the card for Saturday is the Furious Stakes, the most important of the many 1400 metre races on Chelmsford Stakes Day. It is a race for 3 year old fillies that can be a good guide to contenders in the Tea Rose Stakes and Flight Stakes.
The Group 3 Tramway Quality Handicap is the last of the Group races run on Chelmsford Stakes Day. It is another 1400m race, an open handicap for 3 year olds and up. Last year’s winner Rangirangdoo actually went on to win the Group 2 Crystal Mile as well.
While it may not seem so important given all the other races on the card, the Listed Ming Dynasty Quality will also be run on Chelmsford Stakes Day. Raced over 1400 metres, don’t miss out on this one just because you are spoiled for choice by Group races.
